Passes is an ongoing series of prints created in collaboration with Dread Scott, drawing on research begun during a residency at the Camargo Foundation near Marseille. The artworks explore connections between the forced migrations and currencies of the French Slave Trade and present-day migrations from Africa to Europe. Research for the project has involved examining historic records of leading 19th century Marseillais people-trader MM. Régis.
The first three prints shown here were made in the lithography studio at Stony Brook University with master printer Lorena Salcedo-Watson and students. The fourth and fifth lithographs shown were published in 2022-2023 in Paris by Deb Chaney Editions at Ateliers Stephane Guilbaud. Prints are available from these editions: please inquire.
